Christmas flash games special

I've not posted for a long time but that doesn't mean things have been quiet.
There have been many updates to www.ultrakillz.com, plenty of games development work for Activision and also we're starting a new company called MBXGames (www.mbxgames.com)

The last two months have been extremely busy for me mainly due to it being Christmas and-all that. Luckily everything's gone live now and i can relax.

There have been two main games projects: One for Activision called Gung-ho-ho-ho which is along the lines of my past camperstrike-style games (completely re-written though).

It's influenced by the game Call of Duty, but it's obviously just a flash game for a bit of festive fun and for Activision to turn all this carnage into a good positive charity-giving activity. So fair play to them for giving us all something to play at work when we should be errr working.

The second project was our first client commissioned work as MBXGames for David Lloyd called Santa Tennis Training.

This gets pretty difficult, and you're unlikely to make it onto the highscores - and even less likely to get above my score... but go ahead if you think you have the skillz :P

Anyway - lots to crack on with, watch this space for the evolution of barraxworld becoming MBXgames and all the cool stuff we'll be producing in '09.
I'm off snowboarding now (yeah, yeah - cliché) - so have a good Christmas and Happy new Year :D

E4 Golden Joystick!

The chaps at E4 have created a Grand Master Flash Award category at this years golden joysticks award ceremony. I think it's ace that they're recognizing the talents of the 'small guys/girls' and it's going to be a step further towards the gaming industry realising the potential for decent 'casual games'.

So if you're a flash game developer, and you want to show off your non-commissioned work, polish it up and submit it to E4. The only downside is you can't add leaderboards (or any external calls to APIs etc) which i think is a shame - most of the fun is trying to compete against others.

You can see all the details at: http://www.e4.com/joystick/

Brolly that Wally!

Another game went live today. It was made in as2 (yeah yeah i know) using APE's predecessor FLADE...(yeah i know x2). The concept is pretty simple but the final game is surprisingly fun. Go check it out at www.wallywiththebrolly.com

Going APE...

I'm currently working on a single player fighting game using the APE physics engine. There's so much cool stuff you can do with that - im suprised that we dont see more games using decent physics. Go check it out at... http://www.cove.org/ape

I'll post an update as soon as i'm allowed to (it's client work).

Just a small one...

The guys at Kanzo needed me to spend a few hours on a game for Tiger Beer - coding the throwing, impacts, scoring etc. It's a very simple concept but oddly addictive. It didnt take much time at all but i enjoyed playing it so much i thought i'd give it a mention.

Got a blog...am i "down" with the kids now? Quick update:

I've never really grasped the concept of blogging. As you'll see i posted some crap back in 2004 - think it was something to do with search engine optimisation for my portfolio site (cheap i know).

Either way im gonna give it another shot. I've been creating some fun Flash stuff over the past few years, delved into as3 coding and messed around with some 3D game experiments.

The most notable project has been "Ultrakillz". A realtime multiplayer First Person shooter in AS3. Sounds ambitious... and it was/is. Currently its in closed beta but very soon we'll be opening the gates and any old joe can join and pop a virtual cap into someones virtual ass.

Head over to www.ultrakillz.com, watch the trailer, pre-register, have a poke around and then get pwned!
